Vanilla coffee – a fragrance that’s impossible to resist

Coffee and vanilla are a common harmonious combination. The duo of these smells often hangs in coffee shops, whetting customers’ appetites and creating a cozy, homely atmosphere. The sweet aroma of the spice softens the coffee bitterness and gets rid of excess acidity, making your favorite drink more dessert-like.

How to choose the right spice

Whole vanilla in pods has the most pleasant, natural flavor. Only 4-5 grains are needed to make a cup of the invigorating treat. An excess of spice adds a bitterness to the dish.

Ароматная специя

This spice is not always available in its full form: not every store sells it, and the price is high. A good substitute for unavailable spice is vanilla sugar, syrup and liqueur. To flavor these products conscientious manufacturers use natural raw materials.

The packaging of a quality vanilla sugar, syrup or liqueur should have “natural flavoring” on the package, not “flavoring identical to natural.” Such a product will make baked goods and drinks truly vanilla.

Vanillin sold in little bags for pennies doesn’t even come close to being a noble spice. The white crystalline powder that is often put in baked goods is made artificially, chemically. Using such an additive will not give an impression of the smell of real vanilla. It is acceptable to use a substitute in confectionery, but coffee with vanilla has a specific bitter taste and smell.

Flavored coffee beans also make a drink with a distinct vanilla flavor. Many coffee producers call it “French Vanilla,” which speaks of the romantic French love of the exquisite scent. Coffee with additives can only be brewed in a carafe: essential oils can disrupt the coffee machine.

Beverage specialties

The flavor of vanilla is fully revealed in hot form, which is why the spice is so often used in baking. Drinks are brought to a boil so that the valuable grains give off the smell as much as possible.

The concentrated aroma of black pods easily interrupts the coffee bouquet, so fragrant spice and its substitutes are added in very small quantities.

This natural spice has a powerful effect on the human body, especially on the nervous system, thanks to the rare essential oils that make up its composition. The sweet smell improves mood, calms, lowers blood pressure, normalizes sleep. The effect of caffeine is partially neutralized by vanilla, so a drink with its addition does not have a pronounced tonic effect. The spice is considered a powerful aphrodisiac.

Methods of preparation

Recipes for coffee with vanilla in addition to the main ingredients can include other spices, as well as milk and alcohol.

Natural spice has a very persistent flavor. Coffee grinder and turkey will retain the specific flavor for a long time. Therefore, to prepare fragrant coffee, you need to allocate a special dish or put the spice directly into the cup.

With vanilla and cinnamon

To make it, you will need:

  • 10 g of coffee beans;
  • a piece of cinnamon
  • stick (approx. 1/3);

  • a piece of vanilla pod (1/3);
  • 200 ml water.

Grind the cinnamon, vanilla beans and coffee beans in a coffee grinder. The resulting powder is poured into a pot, pour cold water and put on low heat. Bring it to the boil, and then pour it into a cup.

With liqueur

For the preparation you will need:

  • 2 tsp. ground coffee;
  • 100 ml of vanilla liqueur;
  • 200 ml water.

Алкогольный кофе

Boil the coffee, pour into a cup and strain through a sieve. Add the liqueur and stir. The sugar should be served separately: the warming drink will have a slightly sweet taste without it. The alcohol has a strength of 20 to 30 proof. The alcohol has a strength of 20-30%, so in terms of pure alcohol a portion of flavored cocktail contains only 2 grams of alcohol.

With vanilla sugar

To make it, you’ll need:

  • 2 tsp. ground coffee;
  • 1 tsp. vanilla sugar;
  • 200 ml water.

Heat the vanilla sugar and ground coffee in a pot, pour in water and bring to the boil. Pour it into a cup and sweeten with regular sugar if you want. Never add more than a teaspoon: too much sweetened vanilla will make it too obtrusive and a bitter taste.

With cream (raff)

To make it, you will need:

  • 2 tsp. ground coffee;
  • 1 tsp. vanilla sugar;
  • 100 ml water;
  • 100 ml of cream;
  • 1 tsp. vanilla syrup.

Pour the sugar and ground coffee in a carafe, heat slightly, then pour the water and heat until foamy. Whisk the hot beverage with the heated cream. On the surface of the foam make drawings with vanilla syrup.

Coffee drinks with a warm, sweet smell of gourmet spice are warming and uplifting. You can add vanillin to your coffee for comparison. The taste will turn out bitter, and the smell is too pungent, chemical, and the gastronomic pleasure of the drink will not be given.
